You can make the perfect loaf of bread with a handful of basic ingredients and simple steps. It is also quicker to bake this white bread recipe in the air fryer compared with an oven.
You do not need too much equipment either, just a bowl, round pan and an air fryer!
When I want to make a larger batch, I make this Instant Pot Bread which uses the instant pot to prove the dough and a dutch oven to bake in the oven.

Flour – I have used strong white bread flour for this bread loaf.
Note that if you use whole wheat flour, you may need more water to achieve a craggy bread dough.
Alternatively, use all purpose flour.
Yeast – fast acting yeast aka fast action yeast, active dry yeast, instant yeast or quick rise yeast
Sugar – white granulated sugar
Salt
Oil – I have used extra virgin olive oil for a vegan bread recipe but you may use melted butter or ghee.
Water – tepid or lukewarm water
How to make white bread in the air fryer
In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients – flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
Add the warm water and olive oil.
Mix the ingredients with a wooden spoon or spatula until a dough forms.
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size. I use the instant pot during the winter months.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
Place the dough on a lightly floured surface.
Shape the dough into a boule (ball) and place in an oiled 7 inch springform tin. Ensure the tin that you use fits your air fryer basket.
Allow for a second rise for 15-20 minutes.
Score the top of the dough if you wish.
Now, preheat your air fryer to 200C/400F for 5 minutes.
Place the tin in the warm air fryer basket and air fry at 200C/400F for around 10 minutes,
Then, lower the heat to 170C/350F and air fry for a further 20 minutes, checking periodically to ensure it doesn’t burn and that the top of the dough does not touch the heating element.
The bread is done when it has a golden brown crust, and tapping on it produces a hollow sound.
Allow the bread to cool on a cooling rack before slicing.
Recipe tips
The cooking time can vary depending on the air fryer model and size of the loaf. Adjust the temperature and time accordingly.
You may notice that in an air fryer, the bottom of the bread does not bake as well as the sides and top. If this happens to you, flip the bread over and air fry for a further 5 minutes (it may flatten the top of the bread)

Storage
Storing bread properly can help maintain its freshness. Here are some tips on how to store, freeze, and thaw bread:
- Room Temperature:
- Store bread at room temperature if you plan to consume it within 2 days. Use a bread box or an airtight container.
- Refrigeration:
- Refrigerating bread is not recommended as it can accelerate the staling process. However, if you have a high-humidity environment, storing bread in the fridge can help prevent mould growth.
- Freezing:
- Freezing is the best way to extend the shelf life of bread for a longer period.
- Use airtight, moisture-proof bags or wrap the bread tightly in plastic wrap and then place it in a freezer bag.
- Freeze bread as soon as possible to lock in freshness.
- Slice the bread before freezing to make it easier to thaw individual portions.
- Thawing:
- Room Temperature: Leave the bread at room temperature for a few hours or overnight. This is suitable for sliced bread.
- Toaster or Oven: Toasting or baking frozen bread slices can bring back crispiness.
- Microwave: Use the microwave for a quick thaw, but the texture may suffer.
