Air-Fryer Pasta Chips are the latest TikTok trend that we can't get enough of! Pasta is first cooked and then air-fried with flavouring to create the most delicious crunchy and flavourful snack - minimal ingredients required.
We have made this trend our own by using lentil pasta which are gluten-free! A finger-licking combination of middle-eastern Zaatar with a harissa and tahini sauce hits the spot every single time.
So you've gifted yourself a shiny new Air Fryer? The next step is to work out what to make in there!!
The benefits of an Air Fryer are well known by now!
No need to deep fry - uses less oil
Cooks the food evenly
Cooks food in less time compared to an oven
Hard to believe? These Air Fryer Punjabi Samosa Puffs are proof that the air fryer delivers delicious results.
These pasta chips first became viral on TikTok and were made with normal pasta. Since then, the recipe has taken the world by a storm! We thought of using lentil pasta which makes for an alternative to normal pasta.
INGREDIENTS
● Pasta - we have used a mix of lentil pasta. Lentil pasta is naturally gluten-free and is lower in carbs. I've read various sources saying that normal durum wheat pasta chips can get quite stodgy - after all you are eating pasta!!
The pasta we have used is made from 100% pea flour and 100% red lentil flour.
This recipe works best with small pasta shapes rather than long, ribbon pasta.
● Oil - we have used a light olive oil here.
● Seasoning - we first tried these lentil pasta chips with za'atar and nutritional yeast for Middle-Eastern flavours.
As these pasta are made from lentils, I would suggest adding a generous amount of seasoning so the pasta flavour is not overwhelming.
● Nutritional Yeast - easily available in the health shop or regular supermarkets, you may use vegetarian hard cheese but then these chips won't be vegan.
● Salt to taste
INGREDIENTS FOR TAHINI SAUCE
● Tahini
● Harissa paste/sauce
● Agave syrup or sugar
● Lemon juice
OTHER SEASONING SUGGESTIONS
Oregano and nutritional yeast
Italian seasoning and pesto
Cajun or jerk seasoning
Everything Bagel seasoning
Churro seasoning - mix sugar and cinnamon powder
If you love Indian spice blends, you may want to try these
Chaat Masala - A mix of spice powders that is tangy and usually used in chaat dishes.
Tandoori Masala - Tandoori masala is a blend of various spices, it is used to flavor many Indian dishes that provide aromatic, spicy and savory flavors.
Masala Powder - Masala is just a basic spices powder such as red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and ground cumin and coriander powder.
TIPS FOR THE CRUNCHIEST PASTA CHIPS
Cook the pasta until al-dente rather than well done. This ensures that the pasta does not become sticky and starts clumping together.
Recipes generally suggest cooking the pasta for 15 mins, but we found that 10 minutes was sufficient. I would start at 10 minutes and work your way up so that the chips do not burn
Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket as the pasta will not cook evenly
If you are making different shapes, cook them separately as they all have their own cooking time.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
There are various different dipping sauces that you can serve with these chips.
Hummus is a great idea - particularly for the flavourings we have used. This ensures that the complete snack is low-carb

CAN I MAKE PASTA CHIPS IN THE OVEN?
Absolutely you can, lay the pasta evenly in a baking tray and bake them at 375F/180C until crisp, don't forget to shake them up halfway.
CAN I MAKE PASTA CHIPS WITHOUT OIL?
Yes, just use some Aquafaba to coat the pasta rather than oil and this will help the flavouring to stick.
CAN I MAKE PASTA CHIPS AHEAD OF TIME?
I would suggest making the pasta chips when you plan on eating them as they do quickly go soft. You can prepare the flavouring ahead of time and cook the pasta but only air fry before serving.
HOW TO STORE LEFTOVER PASTA CHIPS?
I would suggest eating these crisps/chips the day that you make them. However, if you have made a particularly large batch then store it in an airtight container and consume the next day.
You could try reviving the chips by placing them in the air fryer for a further 5 mins
Freezing is not recommended for pasta chips.
