These Rajkot na Peda are soft, white Gujarati milk peda made with full-fat milk powder, whole milk and sugar. They are quick, simple and sweet, making them perfect for Diwali, Raksha Bandhan, weddings, gifting or any happy occasion.
Unlike richer saffron peda such as my Kesar Malai Peda or Kesar Mawa Peda, these Rajkot na Peda are kept simple and white so the milky flavour really comes through.

What are Rajkot na Peda?
Rajkot na Peda are a famous Gujarati sweet from Rajkot in Gujarat.
They are usually white, soft and milky, with a simple flavour rather than lots of added spices.
This version is made with milk powder, which makes it much quicker than traditional peda made by reducing milk for a long time.
My mum first tasted Rajkot na peda after my parents’ wedding, when she visited relatives in Rajkot and was given a box to take home. That small memory is one of the reasons this sweet feels special in our family.
This is a stovetop milk powder peda, but if you want a richer khoya-style peda made quickly, my Microwave Mawa Peda is another easy option.

Mithai Gift-box
For a mithai box, I like pairing these plain white Rajkot na Peda with something more flavoured, such as Clotted Cream Peda, Ricotta Cheese Peda or Badam Caramel Malai Peda.

Main Ingredient Notes
Find the full measurements in the recipe card below.

Full-fat milk powder
These are much quicker than traditional khoya-based peda such as Mathura Peda, because this version uses full-fat milk powder instead of slowly reducing milk.
I full-fat milk powder for the best flavour and texture.
I like to dry-roast it very briefly on a low heat. This helps remove the raw milk powder taste and prevents the peda from becoming sticky.
Do not let it change colour. Rajkot na peda should stay white.
Whole milk
Whole milk gives the peda a richer, creamier taste.
Sugar
Regular granulated sugar works well.
These peda should be sweet, but not sickly sweet.
Garnish
Pistachio slivers, saffron strands and dried rose petals look beautiful, but they are optional.
The peda themselves are traditionally plain and white.

📖 Recipe

Rajkot Na Peda
Ingredients
- 3 cup full-fat milk powder approximately 375g
- 1 cup sugar 200g
- ½ cup whole milk 125ml
Garnishing
- 1 tablespoon pistachio slivers
- saffron
- dried rose petals
Instructions
- Dry roast the milk powder on a very low heat in a heavy bottomed pan until aromatic. It will only take 1 minute. Do not allow the colour to change, we want to keep the peda white.
- Into the pan, add in sugar and milk.
- Beat with a balloon whisk and make a smooth mixture.
- Turn on the heat, and start cooking the mixture.
- Keep stirring constantly, and keep the heat on a low to medium.
- After around 10-15 minutes the mixture will start thickening and leaves the edges of the pan and becomes one mass.
- Remove the mixture on to another plate and leave the mixture to cool completely.
- Rub some ghee on your palm and knead the peda mixture on the clean worktop.
- Make a big round ball, and roll out with a rolling pin, keep ½″.
- Cut into round shape with a cookie cutter.
- OR divide the peda mixture into equal size of balls and flatten them slightly and make peda.
- Garnish it with pistachio slivers, saffron threads and dried rose petals.

Notes
- Use full-fat milk powder. Skimmed milk powder will not give the same richness.
- Dry-roast on a very low heat. Only roast until aromatic, not golden.
- Keep stirring once the mixture cooks. This stops it catching at the bottom.
- Cook until it leaves the sides of the pan. The mixture should come together as one soft mass.
- Cool before shaping. The peda mixture firms as it cools.
- Grease your hands with a little ghee. This makes shaping much easier.
