A crunchy, sweet, spicy, and tangy oats snack mix made with roasted jumbo oats, nuts, curry leaves, and warming spices. Perfect as a tea-time snack or quick munch.

Oats chewdo delicious treat for young and old. I did not deep fry the oats, just roasted in a little oil, not as crunchy as much as the cornflakes chevdo or poha chivda but still the taste remains marvellous ! Little tangy, sweet and spicy , A super tasty anytime snack ready in jiffy !

📖 Recipe

Oats Chivda Recipe (Namkeen Oats Mix)
Ingredients
- 1 cup jumbo oats
- ½ cup assorted nuts cashews and peanuts
- ¼ cup golden raisins
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 2 to 3 tablespoons oil
- 3 to 4 green chillies sliced into rounds
- 10 to 12 fresh curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon whole spices cinnamon stick and cloves
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 2 to 3 tablespoons caster sugar
- ½ teaspoon citric acid limbu na phool, crushed
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Dry roast the cashews and peanuts in a pan until golden and crunchy. Set aside.
- In the same pan, heat 1 tablespoon oil and roast the oats on low heat until lightly golden. Transfer to a large mixing bowl.
- Add the roasted nuts, raisins, sugar, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and citric acid. Mix well.
- Heat the remaining oil in a small pan. Add cloves and cinnamon and fry for a few seconds, then add to the oats mixture.
- In the same oil, fry the curry leaves until crisp and add them to the bowl.
- Fry the green chillies in the remaining oil until crisp, then add sesame seeds carefully (they may pop).
- Pour the hot oil, chillies, and sesame seeds over the oats mixture.
- Mix everything thoroughly using clean hands so the spices and seasoning coat evenly.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. The mix should be sweet, tangy, and spicy.
- Allow to cool completely, then store in an airtight container.
Notes
- Use jumbo oats to maintain crunch and prevent mushiness.
- Amchoor powder can be used instead of citric acid.
- Adjust sweetness, spice, and tang according to preference.
- Store in an airtight container and consume within 1 week for best freshness.

This has become such a regular snack in our house, the crunchy roasted oats with peanuts and curry leaves tossed in that whole spices tempering is so moreish, and I genuinely love having a bowl of it alongside some plain yogurt.

(I'm not sure if the previous reply I typed came through. I just wanted to thank you for replying to my comment. My first batch got over yesterday so I'll be making it again. When I am I'll make sure to add the salt right after roasting. Will let you know how it turns out!!! Thanks again!)

It came out really well! Thanks a lot for the healthy recipe!! I had a small question regarding the salt -- no matter how much salt I added it didn't seem to get the mixture to taste like it had enough salt. Any tips to keep in mind while adding the salt? Thanks!

Hi Hanna, Thank you for trying out this recipe, it's so tasty isn't it ? Regarding salt, add salt as soon as you roast them and while they are warm so salt sticks to the oats. Hope this helps, let me know.
