I’ve seen my Mum making these dhokla during my childhood, and at that time I wasn’t too keen on green peas in dhokla, but lately I have developed a taste and now I can have them anytime! I can assure you that if you are a dhokla fan you’ll definitely enjoy my Lasniya Mag na Dhokla , Khaman Dhokla and Khatta Dhokla too.
You will need :-
- 1 cup semolina
- 1 tbsp rice flour
- 1 tbsp besan or chickpea flour
- 1 cup plain sour buttermilk ( 1/2 cup sour yogurt whisk with 1/2 cup water )
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 -3 tbsp fresh ginger and green chillies puree
- 1/4 cup frozen green peas
- 1 tsp Eno ( fruit salt )
- 1 tbsp oil
You will need for tadka ( temper )
- 2-3 tbsp oil
- 1 tbsp mustard seeds
- 1 tbsp cumin seeds
- 10-12 fresh curry leaves
- 3-4 slit green chillies
- 1-2 dry red chillies
- 2 tbsp desiccated coconut
- 2-3 tbsp water
- Handful fresh chopped coriander
Method:-
Thaw green peas in M/W.
Lightly mash them and leave aside.
Now mix all the ingredients in a big bowl except tadka ingredients.
Mix well and leave aside for 5 minutes and add lightly mashed green peas.
Start heating water in a big pot and pour the mix in a deep lightly greased thali .
Steam over water about 15-20 minutes. Pierce with a knife, and check, should come out clean if dhokla are done.
Leave it to cool a little.
Cut with a clean knife into diamond or square shape.
Now prepare tadka by heating oil in a pan, add mustard and cumin seeds and hing..add both chillies and curry leaves..let it boil for about 1-2 minutes. Pour this tadka mix on dhokla.
Now garnish with coriander and coconut.
Enjoy with Garlic, Tomato and red chilli Chutney.
