Chia Fresca flavoured with Honey-Lemon, Pina Colada and Jal - Jeera ( Cumin and Mint flavoured Spicy Indian Lemonade )

New year, New morning, New day starts with New ambitions, Dreams and New Challenges, also time to churn up new dishes in JCO kitchen !

Each and every members of my family, over indulged in eating during holiday season. My kitchen and oven was in full action as I did lots and lots of cooking and baking. Almost we swam through cream and butter, had mountains of sugar and oil and we ate all those delicious and sinful delicacies till we dropped ! regrets ? Not at all... after all it was time to be happy and merry !!!




Because we don't indulge too often in heavy and calorie loaded diet, our body starts showing its signs and brain starts telling us to listen to our bodies, and every one in the family starts making an effort to detoxing their body and ensure that we all have plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, super food and more nutritious ingredients starts to include in our every day diet.



So now that the over indulging of the holidays is over, my job is to provide super healthy and tasty meals for the family , we headed to the market and now my kitchen counter is full of fresh veg and fruits, so my pantry is full of super foods including plenty of nuts, seeds and dried fruit.



We love our fruits, I never have to look for ideas to finish our fruit bowl. So with a variety of smoothies, salads and soups on the table, we are enjoying some trendy foods in our diet like Goji berries, Raw Cacao nibs and Matcha. As I am hooked to all of those trendy foods, I buy them in bulk and one of them is Chia Seeds, I use them almost in anything..anything ! Past 12-15 months we all are loving chia seeds, in any form. I make an extra effort to include protein based foods in our diet and seems Chia seeds fits in that category.





Experts says Chia seeds are among the healthiest foods on the earth, these tiny seeds have a nutritional punch. They are a wealth of antioxidants and minerals, more omega-3 fatty acids than salmon, a complete source of protein. "The ultimate super food" chia seeds is impeccable for us.



Chia Fresca, was one of the first ever recipe I tried with Chia seeds. It's very natural and power packed energy drink you can find it, a fuss free and refreshing drink, one can love any time of the day. Chia Fresca is a naturally flavoured water combine with Chia, It is a heavenly drink, beautiful way to stay hydrated by adding whatever flavour you desire !


Chia Fresca has became firm favourite drink amongst us, wherever we go or working around the house, bottle of chia Fresca stays with us. We have been using many flavoured water and juices to make chia Fresca, in the family every one has their own favourite flavour but today you'll see flavours which we all can't get enough of , however for everyday drink I personally prefer only mineral water, it's good enough but to start on a new adventure in chia seeds journey try Chia Fresca with Flavoured water.



Generally Chia Fresca is seen or made with fruit based flavoured water, but I deviated from the western flavours, and gave my own twist and prepared this Chia Fresca with a touch of Indian taste. It was yummylicious ! I used Jal-Jeera as base flavoured water. Jal-Jeera is an Indian beverage, served as an appetizer and it is made with medicinal ingredient which aids digestion, one will need for sure after all that holiday feasting.



Also I used two other Chia Fresca "base" with Honey and lemon and Pina Colada, very fresh and pleasure to have and more than happy to share a recipe with you guys.

Simple yet so many varieties you can churn out for this drink. Mix up juices or flavours by season, mood or just let your imagination run away and come up with a crazy flavour :)

You will need :- Honey Lemon Chia Fresca
  • 250 ml water
  • 25 g chia seeds
  • 1-2 tbsp. honey
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
Method :-
Mix all the ingredients in a glass or bottle.
Let it soak chia seeds for 20-25 minutes or leave it in a refrigerator for longer.
Give it a good shake or stir before drinking.
Can be enjoyed chilled or at room temperature.

You will need :- Pina Colada
  • 250ml coconut water
  • 150 g pineapple pieces or juice
  • 25 g chia seeds
  • Sweetener ? really ? You don't need it, pineapple adds just enough sweetness.
Method
Finely chop pineapple pieces and combine with coconut water and chia seeds.
Mix all the ingredients in a glass or bottle.
Let it soak chia seeds for 20-25 minutes or leave it in a refrigerator for longer.
Give it a good shake or stir before drinking.
Can be enjoyed chilled or at room temperature.

  You will need :- Jal - Jeera
  • 250ml water
  • 25g chia seeds
  • 8-10 fresh mint leaves
  • 2 tbsp. fresh coriander leaves
  • 1 tbsp. grated ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. black salt
  • 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. fennel seeds
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin seeds
  • Pinch sea salt
  • 2 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1-3 tbsp. Jeggery, palm sugar or dark brown soft sugar ( optional )
Method :-
Place all the ingredients in a blender except chia seeds.
Blend till you get very smooth puree.
Pour smooth puree in a pitcher and add chia seeds.
Mix all the ingredients in a glass or bottle.
Let it soak chia seeds for 20-25 minutes or leave it in a refrigerator for longer .
Give it a good shake or stir before drinking.
Ice can be added before you serve.
